If you begin getting port scanned (especially when the target port is a known
game) immediately after obtaining an IP address, then you are likely being subject
to a "wrong number" scan. These occur when you are assigned an IP
address which was, moments ago, being used by someone else to play an Internet
game. The game server is simply trying to re-establish communication with the
previous person and doesn't realize that the game player has disconnected (perhaps
abnormally) and is no longer using that IP address.
If the problem persists you can just disconnect and re-connect so that you
obtain a new IP address. Often, the root of the problem is that the manager
of the game server has set their connection persistance options too high and
it may help to make them aware of the problem. Thus, in most cases these scans
can safely be ignored.
