Adopt-a-State: Call for Volunteers
The myNetWatchman Adopt-a-State program is underway. Phase
One of the program is to verify the contact information for
each state's web server so that when we detect an incident
it'll go to the right place. Verifying this information takes
about 20 minutes per state. Specifically, verification entails:
- Determine your state's main web server's IP address
c:\> ping www.state.XX.us (substituting YOUR state code
for XX)
- Do an ARIN Whois lookup on that IP address by entering
it into Arin's
WHOIS Database. The resulting WHOIS data contains a
technical contact and phone number.
- Call the person listed as the technical contact and verify:
- Preferred security email address
- Correct contact phone number
- Security team contact and phone# (if available)
- Email that information, together with the name of the
state, and the date of your phone call to
,
copied to .
Also be sure to tell us your DSLReports username so we can
give you proper credit!
