g.DMT (Discrete Multi-Tone) defines how ADSL is electronically encoded and transmitted over copper wire--it is ADSL!
If there are any problems at the ADSL layer (e.g. poor sync, interference, etc..) they can manifest themselves as higher layer problems (e.g. slow throughput, authentication failure, etc..). Thus, it is essential to start troubleshooting at the lowest layer and work our way up so that we can isolate or eliminate problems accurately.
