Remote control software allows one PC (a viewer) to control a remote PC (a
server) using any network connection (LAN, dialup, or Internet). The viewer
sees a window which exactly replicates the screen contents of the remote PC.
All keyboard and mouse movements entered into the viewer are sent to the remote
PC, effectively providing complete remote control.
Remote control products are powerful tools for remote adminstration, troubleshooting,
or simply a way to access your work PC from home. For these same reasons, systems
containing remote control servers are high on the list of hacker targets. To
make matters worse, unsophisticated users commonly install remote control software,
but fail to enable any of the password features or use weak passwords. When
such computers are connected to the Internet, they are easily compromised.
