Amit Logging Setup

Amit provides the firewall software for the following consumer firewalls:

  • D-link DI-704
  • SMC Barricade
  • Asante (model ??)
  • Others??

Unfortunately, Amit-based firewalls have no built-in remote logging capabilties, rather they only provide a web-based (HTTP) log.

Additionally, even though the D-link DI-704 (firmware v 2.52b6) is Amit-based, the HTTP logging doesn't work at all.

To overcome these problems you need to:

  • D-link only: Replace your firmware with a generic Amit version
WARNING: Proceed at your own risk!
  • Install Routerlog to provide remote logging capabilities

Step 1: (D-link DI-704 only)

  • Backup your current router firmware
  • Download the Amit firmware for your router
  • Log into the DI-704 via the HTTP interface
  • Tell it to disconnect your Internet connection
  • Log out of the DI-704
  • Double-click on the firmware file (You may have to do this twice to get the upgrade to start)
  • Power cycle the DI-704
  • Log into the DI-704 via the HTTP interface and make sure your configuration hasn't changed
*note: Due to the new firmware, the screens now have a different appearance.

Step 2: Install RouterLog v1.3a

  • Download RouterLog v1.13a
  • Unzip Routerlog and execute it
  • Enter in the correct address for your router (default is 192.168.0.1)
  • Enter your router password (default is: admin)
  • Enable: "Log intrusion only"
  • Enable: "Remember last date/time"
  • Enable: "Include GMT in logfile"
  • Set: Date Format to: Windows Format
  • Click "Open log file" to create a new log file (default is: router.log)
in the directory where you unziped RouterLog

Step 3: Proceed with myNetWatchman Installation

Credits: Many thanks to Sam Offer for pulling together much of this information. Also kudos to Norbert (RouterLog developer) he was VERY responsive to our requests to add new GMT timestamp features required for mNW support
