Since 2000 a handful of faithful volunteers and I have spent more than five man-years building and operating the myNetWatchman system. This is NOT a hobby, but rather a full-time mission to improve Internet security by notifying owners of infected systems, creating tools to isolate malware, and often providing [end-users and network administrators] assistance in removing complex infections. Since inception, we have tracked more than 120 million incidents, delivered infection notices to over 5 million users, and personally helped hundreds of people disinfect their computers.

We do all this with absolutely no expectation of compensation, despite the fact that there are real costs in operating this system, both in expenses and manpower.
