Upgrades & Notes

The current myNetWatchman agent version is 1.25-1.

Users already running mNW v1.22 or higher you only need to do a simple patch. See: mNW patch

Existing users running mNW v1.12 - v1.15 upgrade as follows:

Step 0: Shutdown your existing mNW agent
Right-click on sys-tray icon and select 'Exit'

Step 1: Download Registry migration tool
Nwupgrade.exe (Right-click and Save as to current mNW installation directory)

Step 2: Execute Registry migration
Navigate to your mNW installation directory and run nwupgrade.exe
When prompted, click 'Copy Data' button to copy mNW settings to new location.
Optional: click 'Delete old' to remove the old mNW registry keys

Step 3: Download new nwclient.exe
nwclient.exe v1.25-1 (Right-click and Save As to current mNW installation directory e.g.: C:\Program Files\myNetWatchman)

Step 4: Download new event pre-filter template
Fwfilters.txt - Client-side pre-filter patterns (Right-click and Save As to current mNW installation directory)

Step 5: Delete (or archive) your firewall log
Delete your current firewall log...or copy it to another directory if you wish to archive it. This ensures that your agent will no longer attempt to upload old event data.

Step 6: Restart mNW agent:

Note:

If you are running WinNT, 2000, or XP and want to run mNW under a non-Administrator account you have to change the permissions on the HKLM\Software\myNetWatchman registry key to allow your other accounts full access to that tree, as follows:

  • Login as Administrator
  • Start/Run - 'Regedt32.exe'
  • Select HKey_Local_Machine Window
  • Navigate to Software/myNetWatchman
  • Select 'Security', 'Permissions' from menu (2000), or 'Edit', 'Permissions' (XP)
  • Select the username or group (e.g. 'Users')
  • Check the 'Full Control' check box
  • Exit Regedt32
  • Logout of Administrator, and login as your normal user account and test
